How to get to Toledo by car

From Madrid, the A-42 motorway (Toledo highway) connects both cities in around 50-60 minutes without traffic. It is free and well signposted. From Seville it is about 4 hours via the A-4, and from Valencia about 3 h 30 min via the A-3 + A-40.

How to get to Toledo by bus

The company ALSA operates the Madrid-Toledo line from the Plaza Elíptica station (Metro line 6). The journey takes between 50 and 75 minutes depending on the service (direct or with stops) and buses depart approximately every 30 minutes at peak times. Tickets cost around €6-9 one way.

RENFE operates AVE and AVANT trains between Madrid Atocha and Toledo station in only 33 minutes. Approximately one train every 1-2 hours. Tickets from €14.

Toledo station is a neo-Mudéjar gem, 15 minutes’ walk from the old town, or 5 minutes by city bus (lines 5, 11, 61, 62). If you arrive with luggage, a taxi to the old town costs about €7.

BlaBlaCar is an affordable alternative from Madrid and other cities. The Madrid-Toledo trip usually costs between €4 and €7 and takes 50-60 minutes. You can usually find several rides per day, especially on Fridays and Sundays.
